【時報-記者柯婉琇綜合外電報導】谷歌（Google）宣布已經開始在城市街道上測試自家研發的自動駕駛汽車，意味著谷歌讓該科技變成汽車標準功能的計畫，進入了關鍵的新階段。

谷歌周一於官網上宣布，在高速公路測試自動駕駛汽車數年後，谷歌去年開始將焦點轉向城市街道行駛測試。

谷歌表示，無人駕駛汽車已在總部所在地、加州山景市（Mountain View）的街道上行駛過數千英哩。谷歌的無人駕駛汽車的導航功能，靠的是攝影機、雷達感測器、雷射，以及集結手動駕駛汽車資訊的資料庫。

谷歌自駕車開發項目主管Chris Urmson表示，在城市駕駛的複雜度遠超出在高速公路上行駛，谷歌已經改良無人駕駛汽車的軟體，可同時偵測數百個不同的對象，例如行人、公車、由交通指揮者舉起的停車標誌、或騎單車的人做出的轉彎手勢。
