環保署環評大會，今天上午審查通過總經費高達190億元的「台9線南迴拓寬改善工程後續計畫」，這條台東連結西部的唯一道路，預期在106年底完工通車後，全線將由原二車道拓寬為四車道，單程將能縮短30分鐘的車程，讓民眾往來更安全、更便利。

公路總局官員上午在環評會議中表示，整個南迴拓寬改善工程計畫是地方民眾的期待，由於，工程要一直到106年底，這段期間施工路段難免造成不便，不過，民眾實地開過分段完工的路段，確實有感受到，路變好走了；完工後的南迴公路除了可以提升區域運輸系統服務品質、帶動沿線觀光經濟外，更可提供東部民眾一條安全回家的路。
