平均每兩個台灣人 有一人是泛蔡家客戶

國泰、富邦兩大蔡家是台灣金融史上的要角，目前兩大集團下的金控體系資產加總已近十二兆台幣，平均每兩名台灣人，就有一人是國泰或富邦蔡氏家族的客戶。

蔡家第一代五個兄弟中，以蔡萬春這一系發跡最早，但迅速擴張後暴起暴落。十信事件讓蔡萬春家族重挫，而且因為十信事件債權人上門抗爭，讓蔡萬才決定要自立門戶。蔡家大家族在一九七九年正式分家。

蔡萬才曾解釋，國泰的名稱是來自「國泰民安」，而且國台語還同音；他一直在想一個「國台語都同音」的名稱，後來決定將集團命名「富邦」。

蔡萬才說，「富邦是國家富，不是我富」，而且發音也是國台語都同音。民國八十一年，國泰產險更名為富邦產險，後來，蔡萬才以富邦產險為基礎架構，成立富邦金控。

富邦和國泰雖屬「泛蔡家大家族」兄弟公司，但是在股價、資產、獲利上一路比拚。
