【時報-台北電】微軟即將在4月8號中止對Windows XP的支援，除了對目前眾多XP用戶形成安全隱憂，還有一個不顯著卻極為重要的受害者，那就是提款機（ATM）。美國ATM產業協會的執行理事David Tente表示，微軟決定不再支援XP的決定，無疑會讓很多業者憂心忡忡。

缺乏微軟提供的安全支援，ATM可能無法抵禦駭客攻擊，雖然微軟的如意算盤是希望業者能跟著升級，但是ATM軟硬體綑綁在一起的特殊情況，讓ATM廠商很難跟上微軟升級的步調。根據統計，目前全球大約有95％的ATM使用Windows XP系統。

一台全新的ATM取款機大約需要1.5～6萬美元，壽命一般為7～10年，甚至達到10～15年，微軟的決定顯然讓很多ATM機提前死亡。部分ATM廠商也因此萌生逃離視窗系統想法，雖然採用Windows 7是多數廠商合理的選擇，不過Linux可以使硬體在不升級的情況下繼續保持良好運作，已經成為視窗系統強而有力的競爭者。（新聞來源：中時電子報綜合報導）
