《AppleInsider》周一 (22日) 報導，根據內情人士消息報導，蘋果 (Apple Inc.)(AAPL-US) 目前已開始新平板電腦「iPad Air 2」的量產階段，並準備於 10 月進行正式公開，而第二代的視網膜螢幕小平板「iPad mini with Retina display」則得等到明 (2015) 年才會亮相。

消息來源係台灣《工商時報》，據稱蘋果已決定於下個月推出 iPad Air 2，但不會如部份人士預期地同時推出新版本 iPad mini 系列產品。
蘋果以往一次公開兩款 iPad 產品，但這回將下一代 7.9 吋 iPad mini 的公開時間延後到明年第一季，時間點上令人感到奇特。
目前新一代 iPad Air 的市場消息還不多，但依照目前看到的零件間諜照，整體設計應該大致上無甚差異。第二代版本估計將具備蘋果的指紋驗證功能 Touch ID、新的 A8 系統單晶片 (SoC)，以及 M8 動態協同處理器。
除了新的 iPad Air 和 iPad mini 以外，報導另指出螢幕更大的 12.9 吋「iPad Pro」將於明年第二季期間投入量產，並於不久後正式推出。
蘋果推出巨型螢幕尺寸的平板電腦計畫，在市場間早有傳聞，而近期最新的傳言與本次獲悉的 2015 年初公開消息相符。
