等待許久，期間也傳出收到台灣職棒球隊的邀請，最後還是決定留在美國的老將阿布瑞尤(Bobby Abreu)，22日終於有初步收穫，轉加入紐約大都會的他，在這一天被叫上大聯盟，將擔任替補外野手的位置，使得已經在大聯盟空白一年的他，在40歲的時候生涯得以延續。

阿布瑞尤2012年之後便中斷大聯盟生涯，去年全年都在老家委內瑞拉，今年開季春訓回到前東家費城人，熱身賽上壘率高達4成04，不過打擊率僅2成44，最後還是遭到釋出。3月31日，大都會在他離隊的第一時間就將他簽下，並且從3A開季，結果僅15場就繳出打擊率3成95、上壘率4成89的好成績。

在3A打出不凡內容，大都會決定將阿布瑞尤叫上來一試。再次返回紐約，即便不是洋基，他仍相當開心，「我在費城待了9年，真的很多，而現在我成為大都會隊一員。」這位老將了解自己在球隊的定位，表示將隨時保持備戰狀態，把現在所擁有的能力貢獻大都會。

阿布瑞尤近來有回春跡象，有機會在大聯盟再創佳績，他也透露這段時間是如何調整，「我調整了我的打擊動作，透過錄影看自己哪裡做錯，現在揮棒速度很快，特別是對於內角球。打冬季聯盟真的幫助我很多，每天都努力工作並進行許多比賽，證明自己我還有機會，那就是我現在我擁有的。」

一般預料，守備能力大不如前的阿布瑞尤，仍有可能上場替補防守，若到跨聯盟，則有機會擔任指定打擊，這一切還是要看教練決定。大都會總教練柯林斯(Terry Collins)表示，「為了讓他保持狀態，他在比賽裡會有幾次打擊。我將試著讓他在某些比賽站外野。」
