護大堡礁　澳毒殺25萬海星

澳洲著名的景點大堡礁近數十年珊瑚大量減少，其中超過四成是綽號「珊瑚殺手」的棘冠海星（crown-of-thorns starfish）所為，當局近兩年透過「打毒針」的方式除害，成功消滅超過25萬棘冠海星，希望創造復育大堡礁珊瑚的環境。

大堡礁是全球最大的珊湖礁群，但近年受氣候轉變、環境污染等影響，珊瑚數量大減。前年有報告指當地珊瑚覆蓋率27年間銳減一半，由1985年28%跌至前年13.8%，其中42%是死在棘冠海星手上。

研究「毒針」的昆士蘭省詹姆斯庫克大學科學家里韋拉（Jairo Rivera）還跟陽光海岸大學研究員攜手，合作研製海星「避孕藥」，令棘冠海星不育，從而減少繁殖數量。一隻成年的棘冠海星，每年可產卵多達6,000萬顆。

澳洲當局的拯救大堡礁計劃還包括改善水質，因為棘冠海星仍在浮游生物時期要倚賴藻類為生，水質改善不利藻類生長等等。（國際中心／綜合外電報導）
