就和洗車一樣，先用水將髒污和砂礫沖掉再擦拭，比較不會傷到漆；但是單車不建議直接用水沖，很多零組件怕進水生銹(變速線、花鼓…)，所以我是拿濕抹布輕擦。
把車身擦乾淨之後再拿乾抹布將水痕拭去，最後再上臘。臘要用細臘不要用粗臘，像常見的三彩水臘就是屬於研磨粗臘，用久了車子金油會越擦越薄，建議可以找汽車用的保養用細臘。
