號稱「世界出手點最低的男人」渡邊俊介與紅襪簽約，為的就是能夠一嚐大聯盟的夢想，日前被降到小聯盟仍努力訓練，也逐漸找回比賽感覺，沒想到球季開打前隊仍決定將他釋出，他雖然覺得有些失落，認為這是個嚴苛的世界，但自己不放棄希望，還想留在美國繼續拚。

將滿38歲的渡邊去年12月與紅襪簽下小聯盟合約，並獲邀大聯盟春訓，在熱身賽表現不理想，只出賽3場投3局，被擊出2支安打失2分，後被球隊安排到小聯盟投球表現還不錯，21日對雙城3A的比賽投2局只被擊出1支安打無失分，還送出兩次三振，當時他還說自己已經抓到比賽的感覺。

事實上渡邊無論是在大聯盟或是小聯盟熱身賽，都沒有太多登板的機會，在開打前夕遭宣告釋出，就算心裡有底，還是感到失望，但也學習到很多，「我知道這是嚴苛的世界，受到很多刺激，感覺自己又變年輕了。我狀況還不錯，還想繼續留在美國。」

這位好手不僅想留在美國，並且還發出宏願，「我會盡力而為，希望能再遇到田澤純一和上原浩治。」田澤與上原為他原本在紅襪的隊友，三人原有機會在同一支球隊登上大聯盟，如今渡邊遭釋出，這個機會可能要再等等，取而待之的是可能某天各為其主，同場較勁。

渡邊擁有完整的棒球資歷，在業餘出賽近兩年之後才進入職棒羅德海洋，2001年來到一軍，13年生涯戰績87勝82敗，防禦率3.65，是第一屆亞洲職棒大賽成員，也是第一與第二屆世界棒球經典賽日本隊一員。
