洋基田中將大在出戰印地安人之後傳出手肘發炎，被放進15天傷兵名單，也將錯過本季的明星賽。

出戰印地安人，田中先發6.2局被敲10安，還挨了2轟、丟掉5分，表現大不如前，吞下近4場比賽第3敗，本季戰績12勝4敗，防禦率來到2.51。

神之子的明星賽空缺由誰填補？執掌美聯明星隊兵符的紅襪教頭John Farrell表示，先前就指定紅襪的日籍終結者上原浩治為首要替補，因此美聯方面決定由上原取代田中位置參賽。

這是上原大聯盟闖蕩6年、首度參加明星賽。他自去年賽季開始擔任紅襪終結者，本季拿下18次救援成功，今天出戰白襪，收下第5勝（2敗），防禦率1.27。
