美國官員31日宣布，28歲的美國陸軍中士柏格達爾在遭到阿富汗神學士擄走近5年後，於一項換俘協議中獲釋。柏格達爾是遭到阿富汗神學士挾持的唯一一名美軍，美國以釋放美國在古巴關達那摩灣監獄的5名阿富汗囚犯作為交換。
