HTC and Samsung Electronics both reportedly plan to expand the product families of their latest flagship smartphones, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
HTC has highlighted the unibody metal design of its latest HTC One (M8) as superior to Samsung's Galaxy S5, which comes with a plastic chassis.
However, HTC now plans to offer its HTC One (M8) in plastic, targeting the entry-level to mid-range smartphone market in Asia, indicated the sources, noting that the contract-free price of the plastic-molded HTC One (M8) is likely to drop to US$400-500 compared to US$700-800 for the metal one.
To counter the attack from HTC, Samsung reportedly plans to offer its Galaxy S5 in a metal-alloy chassis, revealed the sources.
