記者實地訪查，鶯歌陶瓷老街250多間店面，只有一半是賣陶製品，小吃攤超過50家，個人陶藝工作室僅30家左右，其餘為雜貨店；當地商家指出，10年前老街店租只要幾千塊，現在暴漲到20萬。

文化局長林寬裕表示，因為店租暴漲，店家被迫販售低成本的陶製品，老街生態已經呈現反向的惡性循環；陶博館的定位「絕對是帶動地方經濟」。

台華窯負責人呂兆炘表示，鶯歌老街目前有4個問題，「陶瓷市場飽合」、「營運模式需重整」、「政府要介入」，最重要的一點是「具創新思維的業者」與「懂得量產的藝術家」要多一點。

鶯歌老麵店陳姓總經理指出，小吃攤在老街猖獗，主要是缺乏管理；陳姓陶瓷業者說，希望市府不要只在陶博館辦活動，老街當地辦活動才有直接效益。

陶藝家蘇正立指出，舉辦超過20年、榮登交通部觀光局12大節慶的陶瓷嘉年華會，「是陶瓷老街的盛景，店家都會把最好的作品搬出來」，近年卻銷聲匿跡。

28歲陶藝家郭詩謙表示，當初他滿腔熱血到老街開店，但當地問題重重，老陶藝家缺乏繼承者，「還活著的個人工作室是老街的希望」。

藝術產業觀察者周銘志指出，「若沒救，就不要救！」他認為，政府不用刻意迴避商業行為，陶博館應為地方產業負責，帶頭為藝術家們另闢新天地，在已經商業化的老街外圍再造藝術街。
