4K液晶電視正加速在電視市場推展，4K面板也逐漸滲透到液晶監視器和筆記型電腦、甚至於智慧型手機市場。未來4K面板能否也進入平板電腦市場？根據NPD DisplaySearch分析師謝勤益David Hsieh和Shawn Lee評估，平板電腦相關零組件是否已經準備就緒適應4K螢幕、可能是影響4K平板電腦發展速度的關鍵。

據調查，目前已經有面板廠商開發出4K平板電腦面板。其中，Japan Display日本顯示器（JDI）公司是最積極投入的廠商之一，JDI早在2013年就曾經展示解析度達365 ppi的12.1吋4K液晶面板。近來又以6代線及LTPS低溫多晶矽技術推出10.1吋4K平板電腦面板、解析度提升到438 ppi，並已開始送樣。另外，Sharp和LG Display也正在發展4K平板電腦應用之LTPS TFT LCD面板。

原本市面上可用的高解析度平板電腦液晶面板規格，包括12.1吋（3840x2160,364 ppi）、8.4吋（2560x1600, 359 ppi）、8.9吋（2560x1600, 339 ppi）、7.9吋（2048x1536, 324 ppi）、7.0吋（1920x1200, 323 ppi）。

隨著JDI推出10.1吋438 ppi面板，高解析度平板電腦面板規格持續向400 ppi提升。一般認為，JDI勢必將逐步放量生產（各類應用）高解析度面板，因此，平板電腦面板解析度朝4K發展並不是個問題。

然而，現在還不能確定的是平板電腦生態系統是否已經準備好適應4K螢幕，特別是零組件方面。像是應用處理器、相機模組、相機影像感測器、背光源、驅動IC等等各項用於智慧型手機的零組件，也都會用在平板電腦。因此後續問題在於那些用於4K智慧型手機的零組件、能否也同步用於平板電腦。

以相機鏡頭和CIS影像感測器來說，4K圖像具有8.3百萬畫素，因此畫素數量對相機鏡頭和CIS來說不成問題，但應用處理器如何高效處理龐大圖像數據是個問題。

至於顯示器背光源，9吋4K面板的像素密度大約489 ppi，假設採用LTPS或IGZO面板，則背光穿透率大約3%-4%。若品牌業者和面板廠需要亮度為400 nits，那麼背光亮度必須達到10000-13500 nits。目前背光廠商已可用超薄邊框面板結構支應14000 nits智慧型手機面板，順利的話，這樣的架構亦可支援平板電腦。
