紐約時報報導，英國衛星通信公司「國際海事衛星組織」（Inmarsat）14日證實，該公司在馬航班機MH370失蹤後，錄到該班機從機上傳出「仍在」（keep alive）的訊號，且說這些訊號可拿來分析，協助估測班機位置。

紐時說，Inmarsat提供的資訊，或可證明為馬航班機失事後，有助於縮小搜尋範圍的第一件重大突破。

Inmarsat為船隻及飛機提供通訊系統，該公司副總裁柯伊里說，他們在馬航失事班機上配有儀器，可自動與衛星通聯，就像手機經過山洞後，會自動聯上網。他說，這種功能「讓我們確定飛機與衛星的相對位置」，且據此縮小班機的位置。
